Life at Saint Thomas Choir School
1:3
A small faculty to Student ratio, allowing for each child to have academic, and social needs attended to.
Boarding
Each day begins and ends in the dorms.
Open style architecture allows for conversation, community, and recreation.
Housemothers reside in apartments on the dorm floors, and care for the boys throughout their day.
While some older boys enjoy the privilege of their own room, most boys are thoughtfully placed a roommate in consultation with staff and housemothers.
Along with their provided bed, desk, and wardrobe, boys are free to decorate their rooms with posters, games, pictures, stuffed animals, and other favorite items.
Community of students, faculty, and staff gather throughout the day in the dining room for meals or in the rec room for games — where meals are shared and family is created.
Athletics
Our youngest students start with basic motor skill development: catching and throwing, and learning to efficiently move their bodies in large and small spaces. By the time the boys are in 5th grade, they are able to compete in interscholastic athletic competitions.
In addition to the full gym located inside of the school, you’ll find the boys taking advantage of the playing fields in nearby Central Park. Over the course of each season, the 5th through 8th graders play a number of scrimmages and official games against other New York City schools.
By the time our students graduate, they will have developed an athletic skill set that translates to a variety of sports, and prepares them to compete in athletics at the next level, wherever it may be. Our graduates have gone on to participate in a variety of junior varsity and varsity interscholastic sports teams in high school and college.
