All boys in the Saint Thomas Choir attain a musical education of the highest quality; one that comprises not only their experiences singing in the choir, but also music theory and instrumental lessons. Every week, each boy has a 30-minute private voice lesson.
Choristers, with their parents and Headmaster, select one musical instrument for study. It is an opportunity for each student to develop and express his musicianship individually in contrast to his contribution to the collective work of the choir. The program also helps to improve and strengthen a student’s musical skills which will contribute to his work in the choir, also. Practice time is included in the schedule on a daily basis and is monitored by the faculty.
The lessons are evaluated four times a year in writing. School instrumental recitals are scheduled periodically and often coincide with Sunday brunch to which parents, families and their guests are invited. We also study towards the graded music examination system administered by the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music, an internationally-recognized pedagogical program.
The cost of the lessons is included in the tuition.
